Johannesburg, April 10, 2013- Deputy Minister of Mines and Mineral development Gift Chimanikire told delegates at an investment conference held in Johannesburg recently that Harare was using a ‘use it or lose it policy’ in its chrome mining sector.
This policy was meant to encourage those with exploration rights to execute operations factoring that bigger portion of the country was still unexplored.
“Only sixty percent of Zimbabwe has been explored”, Chimanikire told possible investors in Johannesburg.
Chimanikire also dismissed allegations of Zimbabwe being colonized by Chinese saying “Chinese came to Zimbabwe when no-one was coming”.
Zimbabwe’s Mines ministry has been in the spotlight for sometime due to its diamond trade issue.
The Mines and Mining Development Minister Obert Mpofu’s name has recently been reported in some media over allegations of resisting investigations over his handling of the delicate diamond issue.
Mpofu has been at loggerheads for some time now with Finance Minister who accuse Mpofu’s ministry for not remitting diamond proceeds to the Treasury.
