Harare – The Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has commended President Robert Mugabe’s call for peace during and after general elections expected later this year.
“We are truly impressed and encouraged by the State President’s call for peace and unity before, during and after the elections,” said CZI president Kumbirai Katsande.
He added: “He (Mugabe) wisely chose this high profile occasion of our national independence celebrations, a time when the ears of the whole country traditionally listen to his address, to eloquently emphasize that peace and tolerance are essential for Zimbabweans to enjoy life in independent Zimbabwe.”
President Mugabe made an impassioned call for peaceful elections when he addressed the country on Zimbabwe’s 33rd Independence celebrations last week.
Previous elections have been marked by violence and intolerance leading to decline in business confidence.
