HARARE, March 19 2013 – A heavy lunch-time storm hit the capital and surrounding suburbs, uprooting trees, drenching hundreds and sending parts of the the city centre into a 10-minute blackout. In the picture, a parked empty minibus is slowly crushed by a huge Jacaranda tree, which fell on top of the car, after the tree had been struck by lightning along Jason Moyo Avenue. The mini-bus driver and passersby watched helplessly as Harare’s Fire Brigade took time to get to the scene and cut down the tree to stop further damage to the little bus. – Picture by Simba Kunedziwe.
