Charging your cell phone without electricity

BizDayBizDay

For those living in underdeveloped parts of the world, or even those who enjoy camping in isolated areas, charging your cell phone can be a nightmare. VOTO has come up with the solution, according to Digitaljournal.com.

Graham Jacobsen the CEO of Point Source Power who have developed VOTO said about 1, 5 billion people had no electricity in the world.

VOTO is a brand new device that can turn fire into a power source to recharge cell phones, using a fire-activated fuel cell.

The fuel cell is placed in a stove, below the charcoal, and can remain there while the stove is used for cooking. The other end of the device juts out from the stove, and a cell phone charges from a cord at the end of this device.

Basically, using oxygen from the air, the fuel cell converts the burning carbon and hydrogen into electricity.

Apparently this isn’t entirely new, as there is a camp stove on the market that turns waste heat into electrical energy. The difference with VOTO is that you can insert the fuel cell directly into fire in an existing stove.

VOTO was designed with two entirely different groups in mind – those in the underdeveloped parts of the world who do not have electricity or running water, but do have a cell phone, and secondly for campers wanting convenience out in the wild.digitaljournal.com
